HEIC to JPG Converter

Turn iPhone HEIC photos into JPG or PNG files that open everywhere. Convert one photo or a whole batch, then download them one by one or as a ZIP.

Add HEIC photos

Drop HEIC photos here

or paste them with Ctrl+V (Cmd+V on a Mac)

Your photos stay on your device. They are converted inside your browser and are not uploaded. The converter code (about 650 KB) downloads once from a public CDN the first time your browser needs it (Safari 17 and later usually need no download). Files are checked by content, so a .jpg that is really a HEIC still works (drag it in, or choose All files in the file dialog). If one HEIC holds several images, the main image (the one your phone shows) is converted.

Output settings

Output format

JPG is smaller and works everywhere. PNG is lossless but larger.

Shrinks only photos longer than this, never enlarges.

Higher is sharper and gives a larger file. 90 to 95 suits keeping photos; 75 to 85 suits email and web pages.

Converted files contain no EXIF data, so GPS location, date taken and camera details are not included.

How to convert HEIC to JPG

    1. Pick JPG or PNG under Output format, set JPG quality (92 by default) and optionally a Max long edge of 4096, 2048 or 1600 px.
    2. Drag photos onto the drop zone, click Choose HEIC files, paste with Ctrl+V, or click Try a sample HEIC. They convert right away.
    3. Click Download on a finished row, or Download all (ZIP). If you change a setting, click Convert again with the new settings.

What HEIC is, and how to avoid converting

HEIC is Apple's name for a photo saved in the HEIF container and compressed with HEVC. It has been the iPhone default since iOS 11 because it keeps quality in less space than JPG, but many Windows apps, Android apps and upload forms cannot open it.

To shoot JPG instead, open Settings, Camera, Formats and choose Most Compatible. To convert when you copy photos to a computer, open Settings, Apps, Photos (Settings, Photos on iOS 17 and earlier), scroll to Transfer to Mac or PC and choose Automatic. On Windows, install the free HEIF Image Extensions from the Microsoft Store, plus the HEVC Video Extensions (a paid Store app) if HEIC photos still will not open.

    How the conversion works

Your browser's built-in HEIC support (Safari 17 and later) or, everywhere else, the open-source libheif library decodes each photo and applies the rotation flag iPhones use for portraits, so they come out upright. iPhone photos usually use the wider Display P3 color range, so the tool converts them to standard sRGB to avoid washed-out colors. Pixels are then scaled to your Max long edge and saved with no EXIF, GPS or camera tags.

    Worked example

With the defaults (JPG, quality 92, Original size), click Try a sample HEIC, a portrait stored sideways with a rotation flag. The row shows HEIC 138.8 KB → JPG 67.0 KB · 1,200 x 1,600 px, and sample-portrait.jpg downloads upright with no EXIF or GPS tags. Choose PNG and click Convert again with the new settings for a 316.1 KB PNG. Sizes vary by browser (these are Chrome and Edge).

JPG or PNG, and what quality to pick

Choose JPG for email, uploads and sharing. At 90 to 95 the loss is invisible at normal size; use 75 to 85 when a site limits file size. If a JPG comes out larger than its HEIC, lower the quality or use the image compressor.

    HEIC to PNG

PNG is lossless, so HEIC to PNG keeps every decoded pixel and any transparency. Pick it for editing and expect files several times larger than JPG. Transparent areas saved as JPG turn white.

    Limits and edge cases

    HEIC to JPG FAQ

    Are my photos uploaded anywhere?

No. Photos are converted inside your browser and never sent to a server. Only the converter code (about 650 KB) downloads, once, plus a small ZIP library for Download all (ZIP).

Will converting HEIC to JPG lose quality?

Slightly, and not visibly at quality 90 or higher. JPG is lossy; PNG keeps every decoded pixel but is much larger.

Can I convert many HEIC files at once?

Yes. Files convert one after another, then Download all (ZIP) bundles them. Convert more than 50 files in groups, and very large files (over 40 MB) a few at a time.

Does the JPG keep my location data?

No. The JPG or PNG holds the picture only: no GPS location, date taken or camera model. Keep the original HEIC if you need them.

Why did my HEIC file fail to convert?

Usually the file is damaged, it is really AVIF renamed .heic, or the photo exceeded your browser's memory. For memory, close other tabs and click Try again; a smaller Max long edge also lowers memory use while saving.
