How to use the random challenge generator

  1. Choose a Category (All, Fitness, Creative, Social, Productivity or Mindfulness) and a Difficulty (Any, Easy, Medium or Hard). A new challenge appears each time you change a filter, and the line under the filters tells you how many challenges match.
  2. Press New Challenge until one feels doable. The challenge on screen is never drawn again back to back.
  3. Press Accept Challenge to add it to Accepted Challenges with the time you accepted it. The button turns green and reads Accepted.
  4. Tick the box next to a challenge when you finish it. Clear empties the list.

Pair a challenge with a timer: the Pomodoro Timer suits productivity picks, the Plank Timer suits fitness ones, and the Habit Tracker shows whether you keep going over several weeks.

What is in the challenge list

The list holds 207 short, single-action challenges: 49 fitness, 45 creative, 40 social, 38 productivity and 35 mindfulness. Difficulty is about time: easy is 5 to 15 minutes, medium is 15 to 60 minutes and hard is an hour or more. All filters pick from the matching challenges with equal probability, using your browser's crypto.getRandomValues() generator.

The fitness challenges use body weight, walking and everyday gear. For scale, the CDC says adults need 150 minutes of moderate-intensity activity a week, so one easy challenge is a nudge, not a full plan.

Worked example

Set Category to Fitness and Difficulty to Easy. The line under the filters reads "19 challenges match your filters," and the card shows one of them at random, for example "Do 20 jumping jacks right now." Press Accept Challenge and the entry appears under Accepted Challenges with the time and a checkbox, while the button turns green and says Accepted. Press New Challenge to roll again, then tick the box on the jumping jacks once you have done them.

Random challenge generator FAQ

How many challenges does the random challenge generator have?

It has 207 challenges: 49 fitness, 45 creative, 40 social, 38 productivity and 35 mindfulness. Every category has easy, medium and hard options, and the line under the filters shows how many match your current choice.

Are the fitness challenges safe for everyone?

They use body weight, walking and everyday equipment, but they are general suggestions, not medical advice. If you have a health condition or have been inactive for a long time, check with a doctor first, and stop if you feel pain, dizziness or shortness of breath. The CDC says adults need 150 minutes of moderate-intensity activity a week and at least 2 days of muscle-strengthening activity.

Are my accepted challenges saved?

Yes, in your browser's local storage on this device, up to 30 of them. Nothing is sent to a server. Pressing Clear, clearing your site data or using a private window removes the list, and it does not sync to your other devices.

What do easy, medium and hard mean?

They are based on time, not risk. Easy challenges take 5 to 15 minutes, medium ones take 15 to 60 minutes and hard ones take an hour or more. A hard challenge is a bigger commitment, not a more dangerous one.
