Reverse Text: Letters, Words or Lines

Paste your text and reverse its letters, its words or its lines. Emoji and accented letters stay intact.

Your text and reverse options

How to reverse text

  1. Paste or type your text into Text to reverse. Clear text empties the box.
  2. Pick Reverse by. A short note under the menu shows what the choice does.
  3. Read the result in Reversed text, which updates as you type, and press Copy reversed text. If your text reads the same backwards, a palindrome note appears under the result.

What each option does

Letters are reversed as whole visible characters, so an accented letter, an emoji with a skin tone, a family emoji or a flag stays in one piece instead of breaking into stray symbols. Very old browsers without text segmentation use a close approximation.

Worked example

The sample text has two lines, Hello World and The quick brown fox. With the default option, Backwards letters, line by line, the tool shows:

dlroW olleH
xof nworb kciuq ehT

Choose Backwards letters, whole text and the same input gives xof nworb kciuq ehT first and dlroW olleH second, because the lines swap too. The palindrome note stays hidden because the sample does not read the same backwards.

Limits and edge cases

This tool changes the order of characters, words or lines. It does not make upside-down or mirrored text, so the output uses your normal letters. Arabic and Hebrew are reversed in typing order, which can look unchanged on screen because the browser displays them right to left. The palindrome check ignores case, spaces and punctuation and needs at least two letters or digits. To change letter case first use the Text Case Converter, to sort lines use the Line Sorter, and for a letter-swap puzzle try the ROT13 Cipher.

Frequently asked questions

How do I write text backwards?

Paste the text, choose Backwards letters, whole text or line by line, and copy the result. Hello World becomes dlroW olleH.

What is the difference between reversing letters and reversing words?

Reversing letters spells the text backwards, so Hello World becomes dlroW olleH. Reversing word order keeps each word spelled normally and swaps their positions, so it becomes World Hello. Backwards letters in each word gives olleH dlroW.

Will emoji and accented letters break?

No. The tool reverses whole visible characters, so an accented letter, an emoji with a skin tone or a family emoji stays in one piece instead of turning into broken symbols.

How do I check if a word is a palindrome?

Type the word into Text to reverse. If it reads the same backwards, a note appears under the result. The check ignores case, spaces and punctuation, so A man, a plan, a canal: Panama counts.

Does it make upside-down or mirror text?

No. It reverses the order of characters, words or lines. It does not swap in rotated or mirrored lookalike symbols, so the result uses your normal letters.
