Online To-Do List

Add tasks, tick them off and keep going. No account needed, and your list stays in this browser.

Your tasks

How to use the to-do list

  1. New task: type what you need to do and press Add task or Enter. A task can be up to 200 characters, you can keep up to 500, and new ones go to the bottom.
  2. Tick the box to mark a task done. It is struck through, and the blue box updates the count of tasks left.
  3. Edit changes the wording (Enter saves, Escape cancels) and Delete removes one task.
  4. The All, Active and Completed buttons filter what you see without changing the list.
  5. Clear completed removes ticked tasks, Clear all empties the list, and Copy list puts every task on your clipboard as text.

How it works

Each task is a short piece of text plus a done flag. After every change the whole list is saved in your browser's local storage, and it loads back when you reopen the page in that browser. The remaining count is the number of unticked tasks out of the total, whichever filter is on. Nothing is sent to a server. See MDN's page on Window.localStorage.

Worked example

On your first visit the list holds three example tasks: Plan tomorrow's top three tasks, Reply to one email and Take a 10 minute walk. The blue box reads 3 of 3 tasks remaining. Tick Reply to one email and it reads 2 of 3 tasks remaining. Press Clear completed and the list drops to two tasks with 2 of 2 tasks remaining, and Undo brings the ticked one back. Type Call the dentist and press Enter and the box reads 3 of 3 tasks remaining. Delete the examples when you are ready to use your own.

Limits and edge cases

Frequently asked questions

Is there an online to-do list that needs no login?

This one. There is no account, no email and no sign-up. Your tasks are saved in this browser on this device, so they are there next time you open the page in the same browser.

Will my list still be here if I close the tab?

Yes, in the same browser. It is lost if you clear your site data, use a private window that discards storage, or open the page on another device. Press Copy list now and then if the tasks matter.

How do I get my list onto my phone or another computer?

There is no sync. Press Copy list, paste the text into a note or message to yourself, and open it on the other device. Done tasks are marked [x] and open tasks [ ].

How do I get back a task I deleted by mistake?

Press Undo in the yellow bar that appears after Delete, Clear completed or Clear all. Undo restores the last action only, and the bar goes away when you add, edit or tick another task.

Does it work offline?

Once the page has loaded, adding and ticking tasks needs no connection because everything runs in your browser. Whether the page itself reopens offline depends on your browser's cache, as this site does not install an offline app.
