How to play truth or dare with this generator
- Choose a Category: Party, Family, Icebreaker or Couples (Clean). The line under the buttons says who it suits and how many prompts it holds.
- Optional: open Players (optional) and type one name per line. The card then shows whose turn it is, and the last button on a prompt becomes Next player.
- The page opens on a sample truth. Press Start playing, then tap Truth or Dare, or tap Surprise me to let the page choose.
- Read the prompt aloud. Another truth gives a fresh prompt of the same kind, and Dare instead swaps the kind. Anyone can pass.
- Open Add your own prompts, type a truth or a dare and press the Add button. Untick Mix my prompts into every category to leave them out for a while.
What is in each deck
- Party: 45 truths and 45 dares, silly and a little embarrassing, for teens and adults.
- Family: 40 truths and 40 dares that suit ages 8 and up.
- Icebreaker: 40 truths and 40 dares for classrooms, teams and new groups.
- Couples (Clean): 35 truths and 35 dares about the two of you, with nothing explicit.
That is 320 built-in prompts. None are explicit, and no dare asks anyone to eat or drink something or to attempt a risky stunt.
How prompts are picked
Each category keeps one shuffled deck of truths and one of dares. The shuffle is a Fisher-Yates shuffle using your browser's crypto.getRandomValues, so no prompt comes up twice until the whole deck has been shown. Then the deck reshuffles, and its first card is never the one you just saw. The line under the card counts how many are left.
Worked example with the default settings
The page opens on Party with a sample truth, and the line under the card reads Sample truth from the Party category. Press Start playing to choose Truth or Dare. Press Start playing and tap Dare. The card flips to one of the 45 party dares, and the line reads 44 dares left before the deck reshuffles. Another dare reads 43. After the 45th dare you see That was the last dare in this deck. The next tap reshuffles it.
Playing it safely
- Agree the house rules first: anyone may pass without explaining why.
- Use Family for children. Party and Couples (Clean) are written for teens and adults.
- Clear some space before physical dares, and stop any dare that could hurt someone.
- Prompts you add are saved only in this browser. You decide what goes in them, so keep them kind.
To choose who goes first, use the random name picker or the spin the wheel. For a different party game, try the would you rather generator.
Frequently asked questions
Are these truth or dare questions clean?
Yes. Every built-in prompt is free of explicit content. Party and Couples (Clean) are meant for teens and adults, so use the Family category when children are playing.
How many truth or dare questions are there?
There are 320 built-in prompts: 160 truths and 160 dares across the four categories. You can add up to 50 truths and 50 dares of your own.
What are good truth or dare questions for kids?
Choose the Family category. Truths such as "If you could be any animal, which would you choose and why?" and dares such as "Walk like a penguin for one minute." suit ages 8 and up.
Will the same truth or dare come up twice in a row?
No. Each deck is shuffled once and dealt in order, so a prompt returns only after every other prompt in that deck has been shown.
Can I add my own truths and dares?
Yes. Open Add your own prompts, type one and press Add. Your prompts stay on this device and join every category until you remove them.
