The Best Free Online Tools: 34 Browser-Based Picks With No Signup
The best free online tools do one job, show the answer right away and ask for nothing in return: no account, no watermark and no upload. This list picks 34 that meet that bar from ClickSolveTools, grouped by what you are trying to do: run the numbers, debug code, check your health stats, edit images and PDFs, or get through a small everyday task.
Every tool below runs in your browser, so what you type, paste or open stays on your device instead of going to a server, and you can test that yourself (see the FAQ). The site has more than 300 tools in 15 categories, and these are a starter set. The few tools that need a helper library, such as the PDF, ZIP and QR code tools, download that code from a CDN, but your files are never uploaded.
Finance Tools
Money decisions deserve real arithmetic. These calculators show the math so you can check it against a quote or a statement. More are in our finance calculators collection.
Mortgage Calculator
Enter a home price, down payment, loan term and interest rate to see the monthly payment, then add property tax, insurance, PMI and HOA dues for the full house payment. It shows the payoff date and the month PMI ends, and the yearly or monthly schedule downloads as a CSV file. With its default inputs, a $320,000 loan at 7% for 30 years has a principal and interest payment of $2,128.97, and an extra $200 a month pays it off in 23 years and 3 months and saves about $118,972 in interest. Try the Mortgage Calculator โ
Compound Interest Calculator
Enter a starting amount, a monthly contribution, an annual rate, a compounding frequency and the number of years, and choose whether deposits land at the start or end of each month. It charts the balance year by year, which makes it easy to see why starting early matters. Try the Compound Interest Calculator โ
Credit Card Payoff Calculator
Enter a balance, APR and monthly payment to see how many months payoff takes and what the interest costs, or switch to goal mode to find the payment that clears the card in a set number of months. It handles one card at a time and compares your plan with paying only the minimum. At its defaults, $5,000 at 22% APR with $200 a month takes 34 months and costs $1,749.88 in interest, while paying only the minimum (interest plus 1% of the balance, with a $25 floor) takes 19 years and 2 months and costs $8,099.77. Try the Credit Card Payoff Calculator โ
Hourly to Salary Calculator
Convert an hourly wage into yearly, monthly, semimonthly, biweekly, weekly and daily pay, or turn a salary back into an hourly rate. Set your hours per week and paid weeks per year. At 40 hours a week for 52 weeks, $25 an hour is $52,000 a year and $28 an hour is $58,240. Try the Hourly to Salary Calculator โ
Developer Tools
Formatting, decoding and comparing are daily chores for developers. These run entirely in the tab, so pasting a production payload does not send it anywhere. See the rest in our developer tools collection.
JSON Formatter
Paste minified or messy JSON, then choose Format & Validate for indented, syntax-highlighted output with line numbers, or Minify to squeeze it back down. When the JSON is invalid it reports the error with an approximate line and column, which is usually enough to find a stray comma. Try the JSON Formatter โ
Regex Tester
Type a regular expression and a test string to see every match highlighted, with capture groups and match positions. Toggle the g, i, m, s and u flags, start from presets for emails, URLs, phone numbers, dates and IP addresses, and keep the built-in cheat sheet open while you write. Try the Regex Tester โ
Base64 Encoder/Decoder
Encode text to Base64 or decode it back, with UTF-8 text handled correctly, or drop in a file to get a Base64 data URI. Keep in mind that Base64 only encodes data, it does not encrypt it. Try the Base64 Encoder/Decoder โ
JWT Decoder
Paste a JSON Web Token to read its header, payload and claims, with the issued-at, not-before and expiration times shown as dates and a status that says whether the token has expired. It only decodes: it does not verify the signature, so a decoded token is not proof that the token is genuine. Try the JWT Decoder โ
Diff Checker
Paste an original and a modified version of any text and compare them line by line or word by word. Additions show in green and deletions in red, with counts of additions, deletions and unchanged lines. It works for code, config files and drafts. Try the Diff Checker โ
Health & Fitness Tools
Private, quick calculators for body metrics and nutrition. They give estimates, not medical advice. More are in our health calculators collection.
Calorie Calculator (TDEE)
Enter your gender, age, height, weight and activity level to estimate your BMR (the calories you burn at rest) and your TDEE (the calories you burn in a day), with daily targets for maintaining, losing or gaining weight. It uses the Mifflin-St Jeor equation, which a 2005 systematic review found predicted resting metabolic rate within 10% of measured values for more people than the other common equations. It is still an estimate, so adjust by what the scale does over a few weeks. Try the Calorie Calculator โ
BMI Calculator
Enter height and weight in imperial or metric units to get your BMI, its category, a visual scale and a healthy weight range. The CDC describes BMI as a screening measure that is not intended to diagnose illness, so treat the number as one data point, not a verdict. Try the BMI Calculator โ
Macro Calculator
Once you know your calories, the Macro Calculator turns your body stats, activity level and goal into daily gram targets for carbohydrates, protein and fat. Pick a preset (Balanced 40/30/30, Low Carb 25/40/35, Keto 5/30/65 or High Protein 30/40/30, as carbs, protein and fat percentages) or adjust the ratios yourself, then see the split per meal for 3 meals or 3 meals plus 2 snacks. Try the Macro Calculator โ
Image Tools
Compressing, resizing and converting happen in your browser, so photos never leave your device. For the reasoning behind the settings, read our guide to image compression for the web. More are in our image tools collection.
Image Compressor
Drop in an image, choose JPEG or WebP as the output and set the quality slider, which opens at 80%. A side-by-side preview shows the new file size next to the original, so you can lower the quality until the picture starts to degrade and then back off a notch. The image is re-encoded with your browser's Canvas API, so it is not uploaded. Try the Image Compressor โ
Image Resizer
Resize one image or a whole batch. Set exact dimensions, fit the image inside a box or scale it by percentage, and keep the aspect ratio locked so nothing stretches. Social presets cover Instagram 1080ร1080, Twitter 1200ร675, Facebook 1200ร630, LinkedIn 1200ร627 and YouTube 1280ร720, and batch results download as one ZIP. Try the Image Resizer โ
Image Format Converter
Convert between PNG, JPEG, WebP and BMP, with a quality setting for the lossy formats, and switch to batch mode to convert many files and download them as a ZIP. JPEG cannot store transparency, so pick PNG or WebP for images that need it. Try the Image Format Converter โ
PDF Tools
Many online PDF sites make you upload the file to a remote server. These two use the pdf-lib JavaScript library to work on the file inside your browser instead. Our guide to editing PDFs online without uploading them explains the trade-offs, and more tools are in the PDF tools collection.
PDF Merger
Add several PDFs, drag them into the order you want (or use the up and down buttons), check the total page count and combined size, and download one merged file. It suits invoices, contracts and report sections that belong in a single document. Try the PDF Merger โ
PDF Splitter
Split a PDF by page range, every N pages, or into one file per page, and download the results as a ZIP. To pull out specific pages, enter numbers and ranges such as 1, 3, 5-8. Try the PDF Splitter โ
Productivity Tools
Everyday utilities for writing, focusing and converting. More are in our timers and utilities collection.
Password Generator
Generate random passwords or passphrases with adjustable length and character sets. The randomness comes from your browser's crypto.getRandomValues(), which MDN describes as cryptographically strong, and the tool shows a strength rating and the entropy in bits so you can compare settings. Store the result in a password manager. Try the Password Generator โ
Pomodoro Timer
Work sessions default to 25 minutes, short breaks to 5 minutes and long breaks to 15, and you can change all three. Sessions cycle on their own, every fourth break is a long one, a sound alerts you at each switch, and a counter shows how many pomodoros you finished today. Try the Pomodoro Timer โ
Word Counter
Paste text to count words, characters, sentences and paragraphs as you type, plus reading time at 238 words per minute, speaking time at 150 and keyword density. Writers use it to hit limits on essays, posts and social media. Try the Word Counter โ
Unit Converter
Convert between more than 50 units across eight categories (length, weight, temperature, volume, speed, area, time and data), with the formula shown beside the result. It is handy for metric and imperial conversions, cooking measures and gigabytes to terabytes. Try the Unit Converter โ
Randomizers & Decision Tools
Some tools settle a tie, pick a name or start a game. These are the ones for a meeting, a classroom or a group of friends. More are in our random pickers and generators collection.
Spin the Wheel
Type your own entries, one per line (names, prizes, dinner options, raffle tickets), or load a preset wheel such as Yes / No / Maybe, then spin. The winner is picked with crypto.getRandomValues(), and the Remove winner option lets you draw several without repeats. Try the Spin the Wheel tool โ
Coin Flip
Flip a virtual coin with a 3D animation, in single or multi-flip mode, with custom labels and streak tracking. Try the Coin Flip simulator โ
Dice Roller
Roll up to 10 dice at once with 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 20 or 100 sides, add modifiers, use the tabletop role-playing presets and read back the roll history. Rolls use crypto randomness. Try the Dice Roller โ
Random Name Picker
Paste a list of names, one per line, and the picker chooses one with an animated selection. Turn on remove-after-pick mode to draw several winners without repeats. Try the Random Name Picker โ
Generators & Quick Utilities
Small tools that do one thing well and save you a search, a download or a context switch. More are in our generators collection.
Emoji Picker
Browse about 1,250 emojis in seven categories, search the common ones by name or keyword, and click any emoji to copy it. Your 16 most recent picks are saved in your browser so your favorites stay close. Try the Emoji Picker โ
Online Notepad
A plain notepad that autosaves to your browser as you type, with a word count, find and replace, dark mode and downloads as TXT or Markdown. Notes live in your browser's storage, so clearing site data deletes them. Download anything you cannot lose. Try the Online Notepad โ
QR Code Generator
Turn any text or URL into a QR code with custom size and colors, preview it live and download a PNG for posters, menus or packaging. Scan it with a phone before you print. Try the QR Code Generator โ
Color Palette Generator
Generate five-color palettes using analogous, complementary, triadic, monochromatic or split harmony rules. Lock the colors you like, copy hex codes and export the palette to CSS. Try the Color Palette Generator โ
Age Calculator
Enter a birth date to get an exact age in years, months and days, plus total days lived, the day of the week you were born, your zodiac sign and generation, and a countdown to the next birthday. Try the Age Calculator โ
Grade Calculator
Work out a weighted course grade from assignment scores and weights, find the score you need on the final exam to reach a target, or convert percentages to letter grades and 4.0 GPA points. Try the Grade Calculator โ
Text Case Converter
Switch text between 12 case formats, including UPPERCASE, lowercase, Title Case, Sentence case, camelCase, PascalCase, snake_case and kebab-case. It helps when pasted text has odd capitalization or you are renaming variables. Try the Text Case Converter โ
Lorem Ipsum Generator
Generate placeholder text by paragraphs, sentences or word count, with an option to wrap each paragraph in HTML tags for web mockups. Try the Lorem Ipsum Generator โ
UUID Generator
Generate random version 4 UUIDs, up to 1,000 at a time, with format options. Use them for database keys, test fixtures and anywhere you need an identifier that will not collide in practice. Try the UUID Generator โ
Why Browser-Based Tools Matter
Every tool above does its work with JavaScript inside your browser tab. That changes three things:
- Privacy. What you type, paste or open is processed on your device. These tools do not send your text, numbers or files to a server, so a payslip PDF or a customer list stays with you. You can confirm it yourself with the test in the FAQ below.
- Speed. There is no upload and download step. Results appear as soon as your device finishes the work, and a slow connection only matters while the page loads.
- Availability. There is no account, no daily limit and no paid tier. The tools work the same on your first visit and your hundredth.
The trade-off is that your device does the work. A very large PDF or a high-resolution photo needs more memory, and a phone may struggle where a laptop does not. The site currently shows no ads, and analytics run only if you consent. Our privacy policy has the details.
How to Get the Most Out of These Tools
- Start from the defaults. Most calculators open with a realistic example, so you can see the answer format before you type anything.
- Chain tools. Resize a photo, compress it, then convert the format. Each result can go straight into the next tool.
- Save what matters. Download anything you cannot afford to lose, such as notepad text, before you clear your browser data.
- Ask for what is missing. If you need a tool that is not here, tell us on the contact page.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are free online tools safe for private files?
It depends on whether the tool uploads your file. Many do, and then your file sits on someone else's server. Tools that work in your browser never send it. You can test any site: let the page finish loading, switch your device to airplane mode, then run the tool. If it still gives you a result, nothing was uploaded. You can also open your browser's developer tools, choose the Network tab and watch for requests when you click the button. The tools in this list do their work locally, so they behave that way.
Do these tools work offline?
Not as an installed app: there is no offline mode, so you need a connection to open a page. After a page has loaded, most tools keep working if your connection drops, because the calculations run in your browser. The PDF Merger, image resizer, image converter and QR code generator load a helper library (pdf-lib, JSZip or qrcodejs) from a CDN when the page opens. The PDF Splitter loads pdf-lib the same way and downloads JSZip the first time you save a ZIP, so use all of these while you are online.
Which image format gives the smallest files?
For most web images, WebP. Google reports that lossless WebP images are 26% smaller than PNGs and that lossy WebP images are 25% to 34% smaller than comparable JPEGs at equivalent quality. Results vary by image, so convert a copy, compare the file sizes in the preview and keep the smallest version that still looks right. JPEG cannot store transparency, while PNG and WebP can.
Which calorie formula is the most accurate?
No formula is exact, but the Mifflin-St Jeor equation, which the Calorie Calculator uses, has the best track record. A 2005 systematic review in the Journal of the American Dietetic Association compared the four most commonly used equations and found it predicted resting metabolic rate within 10% of measured values for more people than any other, with the narrowest error range. Individual results can still miss, so use the estimate as a starting point and adjust it to what your weight does over a few weeks.
Is BMI a good measure of health?
It is a quick screen, not a diagnosis. The CDC says BMI is a screening measure that is not intended to diagnose disease or illness, and that it should be considered with other factors when assessing an individual's health. For adults, the CDC lists 18.5 to under 25 as the healthy weight range, 25 to under 30 as overweight and 30 or higher as obesity. A clinician can put your number in context.
